One Book One City


The Yorba Linda Public Library is pleased to announce The Boys in the Boat as the 2016 One Book, One City title.  This is an inspiring story of the American rowing team that stunned the world at Hitler’s 1936 Berlin Olympics.  Join us as we explore The Boys in the Boat through a series of events beginning in April 2016.

Grow It Now: Planting for Victory

During WWII, Victory Gardens were planted by families in the United States to help prevent for shortages.  In fact by 1944, Victory Gardens were producing 40% of all vegetables grown in the United States.  Join UCCE Master Gardeners as they discuss Victory Gardens and what they would look like in Southern California today.

1936 Olympics and Sports

2016 marks the 80th anniversary of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany.  Join Cal State Fullerton Professor Toby Rider in an exploration of 1936 Summer Olympics.

Double Features or “Bills” were widely popular during the Great Depression.  Join us for a fun Friday afternoon as we watch the award-winning Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz at 12:00 p.m. and The Clock at 2:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served.

FAMILY EVENT – Help us come together as one community to create thank you cards for the local veterans at the Long Beach VA hospital.  All ages are welcome and all materials will be provided. Students may earn school community service hours for participating if they bring their school form.

To Hell and Back: The Story of Audie Murphy

Saturday, May 14 • 2:00 p.m.

Broadway and film veteran star Duffy Hudson, who recently named “Best One Many Show in Los Angeles,” has created a memorable bio-play of America’s most decorated hero of the Second World War.  This 45 minute, one man performance will showcase the WWII Adventures of Audie Murphy, his life and crusade to help Veterans with PTSD.
